How To Get iOS 6 On Your Device RIGHT NOW
Apple announced the next major version to their beloved mobile operating system. They went on for quite sometime about the many features and tweaks that were to be included. Through the marketing blitz and super simplistic slideshows, the only thing I kept thinking was “when will the dev release be happening.” shortly there after, it happened! Apple opened the flood gates for devs to play around.
Of course, its not for play, more so for devs to gather their Barings and have apps ready for release date. I’m not a dev neither do I care about release date, I just needed to get my hands on what was new! Lucky for me (and you) there is a way to get around apples “dev only” blockade.
There are a few establishments and people out there with valid dev accounts who are happy to charge you a fee ($10) to grant your device dev status. This is done through the device’s UDID number. After you’ve located your UDID number, you send it off to these folks and they unlock it, and boom…. You’re in. They are even so kind as to give you a link yo download the ispw file that is needed to update the device and instructions.
Basicially, once the .ipsw file is downloaded and your device is connected to itunes, hold the “shift” button while clicking on “update.” This will prompt itunes to browse for the .ipsw file, select the file and follow the prompts. That’s it, you’re done.
To unlock your UDID head over to iOS6beta.com, the order turn around is super quick. Not only did they send it quick, but they support was very helpful. I mistakenly selected “restore” instead of “update,” which casued me to get an activation error, support was nice enough to walk me through steps on how to restore than try again. These guys come highly recommended.
Also note, this is still beta, and beta 1 at that. It does have its fair share of bugs, so play carefully! Enjoy folks!
