iPad Mini It Is, Says Tim Cook. But What Do You Say?
Indeed, the questions that I pose to you the reader should serve you as more than a mode of haterism, but we will start it out like this. Is the iPad Mini enough to pull Apple out of a slump created by, well…Apple? This could be an easy question for you, or perhaps just as rhetorical as every question that follows. The truth is, Apple’s slump is more than just Surface level (Pun intended). The truth is, the coming of the iPhone 5 and the series of issue that came along with it was more than enough to expose the world to the blood that flows from the company that damn near took over the world.
Apple needs a push right now, and with the success of the Android powered Samsung Galaxy S3, and the coming of a possible taker of the number two slot in Windows Phone 8, how does Apple recover from possibly the worst popularity year since the candy colored fatback machines they released in the late 90’s. Behold, the iPad Mini!!
Some of us can agree that less is sometimes good, with the iPad Mini this fact may just be proven right. When the first iteration of the iPad dropped it stirred up a wow factor than was almost as great as the initial release of the iPhone itself…And just about as lack luster. A missing front facing camera, and specs that could not even rival the current iPhone at the time. On the upside, large screen, apps galore, a wonderful way to view information, and Apple at large so to speak. Then comes the first reboot. This gave us all a little bit more of what you loved about apple, with a front facing camera too! Here I found myself having made a decision my self to join in with the rest of the world and see if Apple had what it takes to fill that empty void that Microsoft had yet to fill. Hmmm, and then almost a year down the line, Apple changes their product in the most minuscule way, taunting us with a Retina display and a slightly over weight frame. Nay, I say to this in part update.
So comes this iPhone 4S XL (sorry, that is just me being funny), iPhone 5 that for intensive purposes does the best damn job at crippling Apple and exposing to the world that they are no more than a hardware company that found a way and eventually went wayward. Today October 23rd, 2012, Apple debuts the iPad Mini which in my opinion has far more promise the the last two iPhone renditions.
A lighter, not so cumbersome, and realistic version of the clunky, pretty eyed version titled “The New iPad”. By gosh, I think they got it! The Mini offers a design most similar to the design of the new 5th gen iPod, a design that should have been used in the design of the iPhone 5. Steve Wozniak spoke of Apple as being “Arrogant”, I certainly can’t help in noticing the same. (See iPhone 5 design) Without any argument from me, I happen to favor the iPad Mini over the current Apple products for it understandability. It is simple and makes sense, and it also looks better when we see some one taking pictures with it. So here are some of the spec breakdowns.
7.9inch Screen, LCD screen (1024×768) NO RETINA!! Uh oh!! Well lets see if we can put a band-aid over that! Now lets see, a $329 starting price, and well that pretty much it. Now then, does this device still make sense to you? Yes? Well maybe it should because if so; you are probably one of the afore mentioned that takes pictures with your iPad. I happened to like the design of the iPad Mini, as well as the new iPod. I fell like if Apple put as much energy into the iPhone’s design as they did with the iPod and iPad designs, they would not have to worry much about lawsuits with Korean OEM companies.
Apple has a lot of cleaning house to do if they are to remain relevant in a world of technology titans. The competition is simply way to strong, and much more innovative then even the house that Job’s built could be a the moment. No one will sell them short but how does Apple bounce back from months of disappointing devices? We may never know, but hey, there are always 4S options.
