Nike Sportswear: Black History Month Collection
In this day in age; fashion tends to take a turn sometimes in the path of something more important than just comfort, textures, fabrics or feels. There are moments in fashion when we are reminded of a time were ethnic growth through struggle was ever present. Times when we often forget about the water fountains labeled ‘Colored Only’, and convenience stores with personnel that would utter words like, “We don’t service colored people”. Remember the time of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s civil rights march on Washington or his untimely death, or Malcolm X’s strive to bring about a change on behalf of Black Men and Women securing justice and equality within the Black communities for Black people. Let us not forget some of our new accomplishments in history, November of 2008, Illinois Senator Barack Hussein Obama II would become the first African American to become elected President.
In recent years Nike has paid homage to Black History Month by devoting particular sneaker designs in recognition to the month of February and what this time of the year signifies to all cultures and ethnicities. Needless to say, Black History Month of 2012 is no exception, and this time around the Nike Brand will be releasing an entire pack dedicated to B.H.M.
Comprised of seven different Nike sneakers, the B.H.M. line up will consist of the Air Max 1, Huarache Free, Nike Blazers, Nike KD IV (Kevin Durant), Nike Kobe VII (Kobe Bryant), Nike Lebron 9 (Lebron James), and the always welcomed Air Force 1.
Nike has gone with a base color way of Black and Deep Grey, accented with various highlights of greens, reds, yellows and blues in some cases; depending on your shoe of preference. Along with the sneaker of your choice Nike will be releasing B.H.M. apparel to go with the sneaker line up. From varsity jackets to Tee-shirts and snap back hats all dressed in the designated black and or grey color way and baring the letter “B”. Tee Shirts will bare the inscription “Up Lift”.
