Vitor Belfort Pulls Out of Title Bout With Chris Weidman; Lyoto Machida Steps Up As New Challenger
Were you exited about UFC 173 title fight between Vitor Belfort vs Middleweight champion Chris Weidman? Well, with the recent ban on TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) in Nevada, Vitor Belfort has now been forced to withdraw from the title fight. Now a new challenger has steeped up to the plate. That man is Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida.
Could this mean that Belfort does not want to compete without the use of TRT?
Many of you may think that Belfort is simply stepping down because he is unwilling to fight without the Use of TRT, but we recently learned that those accusations are incorrect. According to Belfort “The Nevada State Athletic Commission recently altered its policy and no longer will permit testosterone use exemptions, and will not permit a TRT program. As other jurisdictions may follow suit, I am going to drop my TRT program and compete in MMA without it.” I give Belfort respect for the way that he is approaching the recent TRT ban. Truth is, Belfort was going to apply for license extension but the Nevada State Athletic Commission pretty much dropped a bomb on TRT, which led to Vitor’s withdraw.
In the picture below, Belfort took to instagram to apologize to his fans.
Lyoto Machida is the former Light heavyweight Champion. He recently dropped to 185 pounds to compete as a middleweight, and many agree that he’s never looked better. Currently Machida is ranked number 3 in the top ten and with an impressive win over good friend Mark Munoz and a unanimous decision win over Gegard Mousasi at the recent UFC Fight Night 36 event in Brazil, giving Machida a shot at the Middleweight title made sense.
